All prices are US prices announced by Apple on October 27, 2026 — a snapshot as of today, subject to change. Performance claims are Apple’s own figures, not independent benchmarks. Details of tomorrow’s event are as reported by Bloomberg and others, not announced by Apple.

What Apple announced today

On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Apple unveiled two M6 machines (Reuters, MacRumors, 9to5Mac):

14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 — from $1,999 ($1,899 with education pricing)

  • 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, up to 30% faster graphics than the M5 model (Apple via Reuters/9to5Mac).
  • Dual 16-core Neural Engine: 9to5Mac reports up to 1.9× faster than M5 on neural workloads and up to 1.3× faster time-to-first-token for LLM prompt processing versus the M5 14-inch model; Reuters summarised Apple’s AI claim as up to 25% faster AI performance.
  • Up to 24 hours of battery life — Apple calls it the longest ever in a Mac — with fast charging to 50% in 30 minutes.
  • 16GB unified memory and 1TB storage as standard (MacRumors notes the 512GB tier was already removed in March), configurable to 32GB and 4TB; memory bandwidth up to 170GB/s; Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6; Space Black and Silver.

iMac with M6 — from $1,499

  • A bigger generational jump: the iMac was last refreshed with M4 in 2024, and Apple claims up to 5× faster on-device AI than that model.
  • 24-inch 4.5K Retina display; 10-core CPU/GPU at $1,499, 12-core at $1,699; dual Neural Engine up to 2× the previous generation’s AI compute; 2.5Gb Ethernet; Wi-Fi 7 / Bluetooth 6; seven colours.

Both open for pre-order on Wednesday, October 28 in 35 countries and regions, with availability Friday, November 6.

The elephant arriving tomorrow

None of this is the week’s headline Mac. Tomorrow, October 28, Apple hosts its “Pro and Tell” event in Los Angeles, where Bloomberg has reported Apple will unveil its first touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro — the redesign this site covered on October 21: touch-enabled OLED, lighter body, Dynamic Island-style cutout replacing the notch, and, per Bloomberg reporting, M5 Pro / M5 Max chips rather than M6.

So Apple is asking for M6 pre-orders on the exact morning the touch model becomes real. Two readings:

The charitable one: these are different products for different buyers. The M6 14-inch is the efficient, longest-battery, no-touch workhorse; the touch OLED model is the expensive redesign. Pocket-lint made the structural point: today’s M6 refresh is deliberately limited to the 14-inch — no 16-inch — because the redesign owns the top of the range tomorrow.

The colder one: every pre-order taken tomorrow morning is taken from a buyer who has not yet seen the touch model’s price. If the OLED touch Pro lands close to $1,999, today’s machine is instantly the awkward middle. If it lands far above, today’s launch looks like a value anchor planted 24 hours early. Either way, Apple chose the sequence.

The verdict

Do not pre-order tomorrow morning. That is the whole advice, and it costs you nothing: availability is November 6 either way, and waiting one day converts a guess into a comparison.

On the merits, the M6 14-inch is a strong, boring update in the best sense — the standard 1TB alone quietly fixes the stingiest part of the old base configuration, 24 hours is a real threshold for a Pro laptop, and the iMac’s M4-to-M6 leap (with 5× on-device AI and 2.5Gb Ethernet) is the cleaner buy of the two for anyone on an M1 or M4 all-in-one.

But “strong update” and “buy it on day one of pre-orders” stopped being the same sentence the moment Apple scheduled a touchscreen redesign reveal for the following day. The M6 Pro’s real competitor is not the M5 it replaces. It is the machine Apple shows tomorrow — and Apple knows it, which is why you are reading this launch today.
